For the last four and half decades TAGORE
VIDYANIKETAN GVHSS has been
enjoying high esteem in curricular and
co-curricular fields of our stateEducational scenario.
The school
situates two and half kilometers north
east of Taliparamba town, near TALIPARMBA – ALAKODE State Highway. It was founded in 1967 under
the auspice of KANNUR DISTRICT TAGORE BIRTH CENTENARY FESTIVAL ORGANISING
COMMITTEE inspired by the great educational and ideological insights of
RABEENDRANATH TAGORE.
The school
commenced functioning in the land donated by Janab K N Aali Kunhi.At the initial stage the school functioned as an unaided institution in the name ‘GURUDEVA VIDYA
PEETAM’. In 1974 it became a Government institution with some special features under
the title TAGORE VIDYANIKETAN GOVERNMENT HIGH SCHOOL.It was envisaged as a
boarding school for talented children from rural areas.Later on, the school had to abandon the boarding
facility.At first there were classes from V th Standard to X. In the Year
1983-84, two vocational higher secondary batches began in the school with
agriculture as the vocational subject. Higher Secondary Courses began from the
year 1998-99 which has five batches in Science, Computer
Science,Humanities,Commerce at present. There are altogether 1030 students in
the school under 21 divisions.Among these 5th and 8th standard admission is based on entrance
Examination as it was the system followed right from the beginning.
The
development activities are carried out under the guidance and active
participation of Parents Teachers’ Association ,Former Students wing ,Advisory
Board under the chairmanship of Hon.District Collector and the School
Development Committee functioning under the leadership of Taliparmba Muncipal
Chairman.
As far as
the infrastructure facilities of the school are considered, acute shortage of
class rooms and Lab facilities still remain a stumbling block. Our school has a
wide Campus spread over 10 Acres and 19 Cents. If enough buildings and other
facilities are provided our school will undoubtedely scale new heights of
eminence.
